The Rev. Sharon Lee Mei-Shem MacArthur is BCCC’s Acting Pastor as of August 1st.
The Rev. Sharon Lee MacArthur was a member from 1986 to 2003 when she received her Master of Divinity from Pacific School of Religion and left BCCC to respond to God’s call to serve as Senior Pastor of Sycamore Congregational United Church of Christ in El Cerrito.
While at BCCC, she served in many capacities, among them, choir member; co-director Children’s Church; Deacon; Moderator; Vice Moderator; member/chair of Board of Christian Education. Sharon was ordained in this very church in January of 2002 and after serving Sycamore for 13 years, she retired in January 2014 only to be called out of retirement nine months later to serve as Sabbatical Interim Pastor of Church of the Crossroads in Honolulu. She returned in May 2015 to retired life in Hercules with her husband of 50 years, Nowell.
• In the national denomination United Church of Christ (UCC) setting, Sharon is currently serving on the General Synod Nominating Commit-tee. Previously, she represented Northern Califor-nia Conference on the Executive Council, 2001 – 2007, and served as its Chair 2005-2007.
• At the UCC conference level, Sharon served on the Search Committee that called our current Northern California and Nevada Conference Minis-ter Diane Weible. She is also the current modera-tor of the Regional chapter of Pacific Islander and Asian Ministries, UCC, of which BCCC is an active member.
• At her alma mater, Pacific School of Religion (PSR) in Berkeley: As a seminarian, Sharon re-ceived UCC’s Shelby Rooks Scholarship, UCC’s Make a Difference Scholarship, as well as the Dick and Eleanor Norberg Scholarship. A member of PSR’s Board of Trustees from 2002 to 2012, Sharon served as Chair 2009-2012. She also served on the recent Presidential Search Committee which called current President Rev. Dr. David Vasquez Levy and is currently serving on the PSR’s Advancement Committee.
